Goody 2 Shoes

If a raging 6-foot-tall road bully with a steering lock approaches you, what do you do? You kick him in the shin and run like hell. He'll keel over within seconds, hopefully.

You do that only if you are wearing a pair of Red Wing shoes. I'm quoting from experience here but since this is a pinkish blog, I'll spare you the details of my violent encounters.

My chance meeting with Red Wing happened at a petrol-chemical plant in Kertih, Terengganu several years ago. No one was allowed into the premises without Red Wing feet protection.

With my interest piqued, I ordered a pair from the US, only to have them quickly shipped to the flea (thief's) market at Pasar Karat. I only got to wear them for a week before it vanished at someone's house party.

I bought a second pair recently after stumbling upon Malaysia's sole Red Wing outlet, over at
Pertama Complex. Either they are now targeting bikers and rockers or the rent there is way cheaper than at KLCC. The shoes aren't though. They still start at RM 500 upwards.

I have had shoes from Clarks, Nike, Timberland falling apart after wading through some shallow puddles. Somehow Malaysian rain contains some magic chemicals that will dissolve any foreign made glue. With my Red Wing, I can walk in any monsoon without the embarassment of leaving a sole behind somewhere.

Unlike most conventional safety shoes, Red Wing is available in a wide range of contemporary designs; from work boots to casual wear. Whether for hiking, sports, motorcycling or formal wear, there are designs available for both men and women. All are made in Minnesota, as they have been for the last 100 years.

As an avid photographer and adventurer, I encounter all sorts of terrain and surfaces. The pair that I wear has the usual steel toe cap, stainless steel mid sole for puncture protection, electrocution proof, corrosion-resistant, waterproofing and anti-slip.

I love its anti slip-feature best. With it, I can run on almost any wet, slippery or oily surface with nary a worry. Came in useful a couple of times when I had to rush back to the express bus at one of those North South Highway rest areas on rainy days. Several of these highway restrooms are built on an elevated slope and are accessible by a flight of steep steps. Wonder why?

The down side? The shoes are a little bit heavy but they are quite comfortable. They are also relatively expensive but are more durable than most.

One thing for sure; the shoes always unnerve security personnel at airports and embassies, as the steel inside triggers metal detectors. If you are a regular flyer, they do make non-metallic capped versions.

At its price, it is understandable that some people wouldn't want to wear them as everyday work shoes. I do. Heck, Patrick uses his SMART car as an everyday workhorse too. My Red Wing, they kick ass!

Behind The M

Behind the mask. I took some pics of these talented and lovely ladies from M! The Opera, before the staging. Taken at various time and places, you see them here at their natural selves, minus the heavy stage make-up and fancy costumes...

مبروك, تقديم التهاني, تهنئة, تهاني

On Saturday night, I received an SMS from Suanie that read:

"Is Pink Pau on a Jihad? Can you please tell her that her blog is now in Arabic!"

I quickly confirm with Pink Pau that she isn't (yet) a suicide bomber and went back to my drinks. Of course, she was soon inundated with many terrrorist wisecracks. Sunny Tan, was next to SMS me, alerting that Liew CF too had embraced Osama. Man, can't a guy drink in peace?

Pink Pau is back in business and I just sent her this message:

مبروك, تقديم التهاني, تهنئة, تهاني

Just as I finished writing this post, Julee messaged me about a hacker with an unusual fetish over at MMU...

My Obligatory Camwhoring Post

Camwhoring - the art form perfected by FireAngel. At the Boh Cameronian Arts Awards, I couldn't find any femes people to camwhore with. The winners were busy hugging their kronies, the presenters seemed genuinely baffled as to why their jokes fell flat. I did get to camwhore with some good friends who are... eh... bloggers...

Pink Pau is strange. She brings a handbag but
refuses
to carry it. We could have left it in the car
but she
needs to powder up every 33 minutes.

Update: I do have a formal pic with her here

I'm a Technology Blogger today

Just got up. Heddek. Ouch... Drank till the wee hours after the Cameronian Awards. Now I'm off to the KL International Motor Show cocktail dinner. Life is tough. Seeing a Carlsberg logo on the invitation card helped a little...

Since I have little time to blog today, I'm gonna turn this into a technology blog. How? Easy lah. Just copy and paste from Engadget...

Air Tube, the other white headphone
TV Smith's Dua Sen has a brief review of the Air Tube, obviously something slightly down the food chain from the latest Bluetooth headset. TV Smith reported the retail price as RM 21, or about $5.50US, but it doesn't look like it's available online anywhere...

Emo Momo

I just ate eight Udang Merah durians, flushed down with twelve big bottles of Unggalukku Nalathu Stout. I'm feeling emo momo today.

Some asshole nicked my Hello Kitty pencil box with the Keroppi eraser inside. Don't ask me to cool down by drinking Eno with Absolut. I hate bubbly vodka when I'm emo. I hate the SUKMA eagle mascot even more.

I am blogging for the last time, awaiting fatal fermentation. My stomach will soon explode (like that scene in the first ALIEN movie) and I will go the proud Malaysian way. Don't MSN me, please! Let me die dignified. I don't want to see some stupid animated emo-ticons during my final moments.

PS:
Lulu's Tattoos & Piercings at Selayang is having a closing down sale this weekend. I think is at the mall that's cracking up. Their package piercing of rook, eyebrow, labret, nipple, navel and a Prince(ss) Albert(ina) will be going for only RM 25 nett!!! Anyone know the way?

I Who Have Nothing

I who have nothing, I who have no one, adore you and want you. So I'm just a no one, with nothing to give you but I love you. He can take you anyplace he wants, to fancy clubs and restaurants.

But I can only watch you with my nose pressed up against the window pane. I who have nothing. I who have no one. Must watch you, go dancing by wrapped in the arms of somebody else when darling it's I who loves you...

Before you go "awwwwww" I must tell you those are lyrics from a Tom Jones song. My dear friend Sharizal, a blogging veteran, dispensed some sagely advice. If you have nothing (to blog), just copy and paste a jiwang (sentimental) song lah.

Girls will come and read he explained. He even tried posting cute cat pictures but the lyrics strategy worked better it seems. But what happens when you are not jiwang or metrosexual? What happens if all you want is Adsense revenue?

The answer in my next post. Otherwise, I will have nothing again....

Make My Day

I got up late. Cursed my lecturer. Cursed my alarm clock. Cursed myself, went back to bed. It is a Sunday. Woke up again at 10 am. Went to pee and saw a dead cockroach floatng in the bowl. Showered and sang a Pavarotti version of David Manilow's Weekend In New England. Made a Z sign on the steamed up bathroom mirror.

Man, is one those days I feel the need to poo poo only after I have showered. Sat on the bowl and wondered how the cockroach died. Also wondered why nobody has invented splash-proofed toilet bowls as yet. But there is something more profound to worry about. What am I going to blog about today?

You Don't Need To Wank To Go Blind

OK, I'm new here, so bear with me. After looking at a few blogs, I think is really cool and funky to have blue and tiny text. I personally think is impossible to read but hey; is the trend mah. Cool and so funky.

Woohoo! My First Blog!

Woohoo! My blog is on. I heard the first thing to do is to announce to the world I'm going on a blogging hiatus. I know, know, WTF cares? Nobody reads my blog and is my first post. But is the hip thing to do, the local blogging gods decreed.

A fren suggested pinking PPS, whatever that means... But I must pink only when I have a meaningless post, she warned. This one is too meaningful leh, is my first post and I am going on a hiatus.

BTW, this blog is dedicated to everyone who knows me :) I know you hear this on TRAXX FM all the time but is so cute.
